There are a lot of reasons why iPhone users may feel like deleting their text messages. Whether you’ve got too many, find them annoying, or just don’t want to see someone’s name on your phone anymore, it’s important to know that when you intentionally delete your text messages that they’re gone for good, especially if it’s something that you don’t want anyone else to see or that you don’t feel like seeing again. This seems like it would be simple, but unfortunately there has been a lot of evidence that points in the other direction. If you haven’t thought about whether or not your iPhone text messages were actually being deleted, try this. Go to spotlight, and search for a thread that you know you deleted. The results may be unsettling.
Many people have reported that their unwanted text messages are indeed still showing up and it’s important to most people that this not happen. This is particularly annoying if you are trying to delete messages for privacy reasons and you have a determined party in your life who knows what they’re doing. It can make your life a lot more difficult when really the solution should be simple: you deleted the message and therefore it should no longer exist. Some people argue that this “glitch” is a good thing, but there are a lot more people who intentionally delete messages than people who do not.
Why Does this Happen?
When you delete something on your iPhone, the phone marks it as deleted but it isn’t removed from your operating system until the next time you sync your iPhone with iTunes. To the uninformed person who doesn’t know this fact (and why should they, really), it can cause problems. There are two different things that you need to do in order to ensure that your messages are completely gone from the system. The first thing that you should do is make sure to sync your phone regularly. The second thing that you can do is go into spotlight and delete any unwanted texts that you still see appearing. This way, they will be removing from your phone even though the process is a bit tedious and you shouldn’t really have to do it. Thankfully there’s one final, easier way. This is to go to your Settings, tap Spotlight, and then uncheck messages. Doing this will ensure that your messages are no longer saved in the spotlight feature and also guarantee that your phone is safe from unpermitted searches that we all sometimes fall victim to.
If for some reason this still isn’t working, there is one extreme option that will work: Restoring your phone back to factory settings. Doing this will cause you to lose all of your information , but desperate times call for desperate measures and people are willing to do almost anything in order to protect their personal privacy.
