We all love our smartphones very dearly, within any given 24 hour period our smartphones almost never leave our hands reach. With over 50% of United States consumer browsing the internet via smartphone it’s no surprise that thefts and losses are on the rise but the numbers below are staggering.
4.5 million smartphones to be exact, that is 1.7 Million more smartphones that were stolen in 2013 than the 2.8 million stolen phones in 2012. The report crafted by Consumer Reports surveyed 3100 USA adults to calculate the number of smartphones that separated from their owners.
Stolen Smartphones vs Lost Smartphones
Stolen Gadgets in 2012 almost doubled from 1.6 million to 3.1 million in 2013, lost devices increased by 200,000 – 1.2 million in 2012 to 1.4 million in 2013 respectively.

Free Anti-theft Features (Kill Switch)
This Tuesday major smartphone companies announced they will implement a kill switch as a free anti theft device on all smartphones manufactured after July 2015.
