The Best 7 Games to Download Before Visiting for the Holidays

Top 7 Games to Download Before the Holidays

This holidays season, families will be getting together, being merry and enjoying the wonderful time of year that it is. The first thing to consider is the Chart list. Apple keeps an updated list of the top apps that are being downloaded from their app store, including its games. There are lists of free games and games that require a small fee. When looking for new App Store games for the iOS, one can find new ones by word-of-mouth, checking out the App Store, and through lists like the one here.

This holiday season, there are games available on the App Store that you are going to want to own. Family reunions and gatherings are made jollier with the right entertainment, and the right game from the App Store can make all the difference in the world. Not to mention the long road trips that may leave an iPhone owner in the backseat of a car for hours at a time, wanting the right game to occupy their attention and make the time go by.

The Top 7 Games in the App Store – 2016

Heads Up!

This great take on charades is just 99 cents in the App Store. The main player holds their phone up to their forehead, and as the onlookers see the word they try and explain it to the person so that it can be guessed. It’s basically reverse-charades. This is absolutely a game that you want on your iPhone heading into the holiday season, it can turn a regular Christmas dinner with the in-laws into a night to remember.

Words with Friends

This app was most popular a couple years ago, but it’s timeless spin on scrabble is one-of-a-kind, and perfect for those slow moments when spending time with family during the holidays. This one is also great for road trips, and can be played and then put down to be resumed later! Whether playing on an iPhone 5, 6, or 7, Words with Friends is a timeless classic that could really come in handy during the holidays, especially among the relatives who are a little competitive.

Pokemon Go

The craze that swept over the world earlier this year because of Pokemon Go may or may not have been one of the biggest phenomenon of the App Store in the past few years. The craze over this game may have subsided, but for those who are into role-playing games, Pokemon Go may be one of the best games to play during the holiday season. It allows its players to catch different Pokemon depending on where they are in real life, so iPhone owners who are doing a lot of traveling will have a ton of fun with this during the holidays.

Super Mario Run

One of the best Nintendo games of all time is coming to iOS December 15th. Super Mario could even be in the discussion as one of the best video games ever, and iPhone users are going to be able to play it starting this month. Users can download it free from the App Store, but the full version with all the levels will be available for ten dollars. The game will also be available in 151 countries, and in 10 languages, including Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese.

Oceans & Empires

This new game for iPhone dropped November 16th, and lets the user play the role of a ship captain. Battling other “Lords”, embarking on quests and adventures, and forging alliances lets the user experience what it was like on the high seas. Oceans & Empires allows users to chat with other players and replay battles. It has the feel of a real-time-strategy game for the iPhone, and is free to download following its release.

Prune

Sure, there are lots of games for the iPhone that have to do with puzzles, action, or strategy. This tree-pruning game defies the norm for what a game should be. The whole gist of Prune is that the player takes on the role of a gardener, who must prune the branches in order to keep the tree growing in the right direction. The tree starts as a seed, which the user must plant in the ground. Then it grows and the user must trim branches to allow flowers to bloom. A certain number of flowers are required to pass the level!

Goat Simulator

In this iOS game, you’re a goat. Its number one key feature is “You can be a goat.” But it’s actually received remarkable reviews. It has the feel of an old-school skateboarding game, but the only point is to wreck the town around you. It does cost 5 dollars, but if you’re willing to sacrifice the price of a latte and invest in one of the most entertaining, albeit pointless, games in the App Store, Goat Simulator may be for you.

This holiday season will be full of long road trips, family reunions, and a host of other activities. While the season is usually very busy, there’s going to be plenty of time to mess around on the iPhone. These are just a few of the games available in the App Store that could brighten the day of anyone with an iPhone. When we say “holidays,” we are referring to the most immediate (Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years to name a few).
