Here at iPhone Repair 4 Less in Lafayette, we have been servicing iPhones for almost 10 years. That is plenty of time to experience just about every known issue that could possibly come up. We have seen issues all the way back to the original iPhone 2g all the way up to the latest iPhone X. With that being said it has become more and more common that the newer phones are having WAY more issues than ever before. This could easily be attributed to several different factors. One is mass production in which more devices are made and sold than ever before. Another is the more and more technology that goes into these tiny devices leaving more room for issues. The older phones did not have touch ID, Facial recognition, Front cameras, force touch, and the list could go on. So yes, Apple iPhones have been around 10 years now, but they have advanced in so many ways that it really is quite amazing they are still able to fit all of that amazing tech in such a small device. But again, back to the topic, that is why we are seeing a record number of defects.
Let’s jump back a few years to the release of the iPhone 6 plus. That was the first 5.5 inch iPhone to hit the market and definitely caused quite a splash with the enormous size of the device. That was the beginning of many of the issues we see today. With the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, we have seen touch issues, bending issues, even loss of service. Apple has tried to offer very limited support to many of the issues that come up but more often than not if you are outside of your 1-year warranty then you are out of luck. Once the Apple warranty has expired (even though Apple acknowledges the issues are faulty devices) you will be charged a fee to fix your problems. With the iPhone 6 Plus Apple offered to replace the device under their “Multi-Touch” repair program for $149 plus tax.
Next, we will talk about the batteries. We have all heard the rumors and read the stories about Apple slowing down devices to sell more. We personally disagree with that theory and just genuinely believe the batteries are not holding up to normal wear and tear because of so many factors. From using aftermarket, uncertified chargers to just the amount of battery power the newer devices call for under the current strain of use. So here again, if your battery is not holding up and you are out of the 1-year warranty Apple has a fee for you as well. They have offered a discount from $79 to $29 to change the battery which is a great discount!
Now let’s move on to the latest nightmare. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus has been plagued with issues lately. First Apple acknowledged some devices were losing service and so they offered to fix that. Now there are TONS of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices coming through our local iPhone repair shop here in Lafayette La that experience sound issues. What happens is during phone calls you began to have trouble hearing and being heard. This problem gradually gets worse until there is eventually no sound at all and even worse the iPhone will not even boot up anymore. Apple has not officially released a statement but has recommended if software updates and other basic solutions do not help your device then to schedule an appointment with the genius bar. The irony here is that in Lafayette at iPhone Repair 4 Less we have seen the iPhone 7 sound issues for at least a year. So why does it take Apple so long to do anything about these “known” defects? Your guess is as good as ours.
One last thing. Just the other day there are now discussions about iPhone X rear camera going out and causing the face ID feature to fail as well. Apple has acknowledged this issue as well and the good thing about this one is the devices are still under the 1-year warranty.
There are many more issues we could discuss here with our experience over the years. But we will end it right here. We thank everyone in our local area for trusting iPhone Repair 4 Less in Lafayette with all of your iPhone, iPad, and laptop repair needs. We never charge to diagnose or answer any questions!
