So, we recently just passed through April Fools Day, and in the tech world, it’s hard to trust anything published on that tricky April 1st. Well, one company, Hyperkin, made the internet explode with their old school Game Boy attachment that turns the new iPhone’s into handheld Game Boy’s. Now, we’re not talking about adding on a case to make it look like you’re walking around with the vintage gaming system, we’re talking about the first handheld GameBoy that came out in 1989.
That’s right, all you’d need to do is buy the attachment, slide your phone in, and it can even supposedly hold the original GameBoy game that was essentially the most perfect square. Now, you can imagine that as soon as the interweb caught word of this, it was being shared everywhere, whether it was through email, texting, Skype, what have you. Everyone saw this thing.
New iPhone Game Boy Accessory
What started off as an April Fool’s Day prank quickly turned into a marketing plan. When Hyperkin was asked whether it was a prank or not, they responded with, “If you want it to be.” Therefore, the whole plan to release the blueprint for this iPhone accessory WAS a prank until they realized how popular it was and how many people were interested in it.
According to the actual press release from the tech company,
“Originally a planned April Fool’s Joke — now a full-fledged project for consumer release – the currently named ‘SmartBoy’ will attach to the iPhone 6 Plus, turning the phone into a handheld gaming device compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.”
So basically, it’s time to dig into the back of your closet because the Nintendo Game Boy is coming back!
iPhone Game Boy Functionality
We’re not sure if this is going to be a product that we’ll be able to fix once it is released, but we’re positive that we want to get our hands on one. Hopefully Apple can strike up a deal with Hyperkin because this would be an awesome partnership and maybe then the accessory can be multiplatform rather than just working with the iPhone 6 Plus.
However, with that being said, if you do have an iPhone that needs fixing, you can either come into our shop located in Lafayette, Louisiana OR you can check out our site online to learn how you can mail us your phone, tablet, or laptop for repairs.
