While Apple has essentially been at a standstill since the passing of Steve Jobs, Samsung has taken over the scoreboard – potentially topping Apple’s iPhone sales with the new Galaxy S5. Lucky for you, we happen to know of a majority of the things that users can expect from the new Smartphone, and we’d also love to share them with you.
The Basic Questions
• When does it go on sale? The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be released in over 150 countries on April 11th, and it will be supported by carriers – TMobile, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, US Cellular, and MetroPCS.
• Where can I buy one? Of course, you can purchase the Galaxy S5 at any of the carrier stores, but they’ll also be sold in Best Buy, RadioShack, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Target, and on Amazon.
• What’s the cost? Honestly, not that bad. The new version is around the same price as the Galaxy S4 – that’s around $200 with a contract and $600 unlocked, according to CNet.
• What’s it made of? The Galaxy S5 was rumored to be made of metal, alas – it will be made of plastic. Samsung has defended their use of plastic as being more durable, lighter in weight, and cheaper to produce phones with.
The BEST Feature
Finally, Samsung has developed a waterproof and dust resistant Smartphone. That’s right, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be water resistant. However, this doesn’t mean you can go diving in the Gulf and take “selfies,” with the fish – the Galaxy S5 can only be under water for about 30 minutes and no deeper than three feet of water.
The BIGGEST Rumor
This is the one that really got us here, at iPhone Repair 4 Less – according to Samsung, the Galaxy S5 will have an “Ultra Power Saving Mode,” which they described as the phone being able to operate up to 24 hours on only 10 percent of battery. Now, we think that’s a pretty big claim to make, but apparently this is how it works once turned on by the user – according to CNET:
• Display color turns to grayscale.
• Processor is limited.
• GPS is turned off.
• Wi-Fi is turned off once the screen goes dark.
• Ends most battery eating applications.
Now, we won’t know if this rumor is true until it’s released in a few days, but if this “Ultra Power Saving Mode,” works – maybe Samsung can implement it to their other devices.
