Apple Launches Trade-In Program For Product Chargers

After the iPhone electrocution in China last month, Apple has agreed to take any of the third-party chargers that people often buy in airport shops off your hands and sell you their own branded charger at a discounted price. The swap will begin on August 16th and run until October 18th due to the news of people selling third party chargers that have not been designed properly.

The official statement from Apple reads, “Recent reports have suggested that some counterfeit and third party adapters may not be designed properly and could result in safety issues. While not all third party adapters have an issue, we are announcing a USB Power Adapter Takeback Program to enable customers to acquire properly designed adapters.” The standard price for these chargers is $19, but those who choose to exchange will get theirs for $10.

In order to confirm the transactions are scam free, consumers must present one UBS power adapter and their iPhone, iPod, or iPad to any Apple retail store for verification. While Apple has not released a list of the companies selling the counterfeit products, they are letting their customers make the decision themselves based on their comfort level with knock-off chargers.
