Not everyone is technologically savvy which is why we like to come up with helpful tip lists for those who own are having common issues with their smartphones that are totally fixable. In this post, we’re going to look at the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the most frequent issues that users can face. Whether your screen isn’t turning on, you can’t find the menu button, or you’re having trouble hearing while on the phone — we’re going to help you figure it out.
So, let’s get right into it and get your smartphone working again!
Screen Won’t Turn On
If your Galaxy S5’s screen refuses to turn on — or “wake up” — for example, if you’re ever on the phone and want to put the call on speaker, but the screen remains black, this is a common issue for many Samsung users. So, what are some of the workarounds for this problem?
- Hold the power key down for seven seconds – or until you feel a vibration. After you let go, press the power key again to turn the phone back on.
- If that doesn’t work, take the batter out of the back, let the phone sit without it for 10 seconds, then put it back in and power back up the S5.
When this problem with the screen happens, some Galaxy users have found that if you disable the lock screen all together, the problem rarely happens. To disable the lock screen, you want to go to:
- [Settings] — [Device] — [Lock Screen] — [Additional Information] — then just switch it to “off”
Hard Time Hearing Phone Calls
There are a few Samsung Galaxy S5 users who have experienced issues with hearing during phone calls – rather they can’t hear, or the person they are speaking to can’t hear them. The easiest work around is to hold down the [Power] key and then hit [Restart] from the menu that appears, but has been known as a quick fix and the problem may persist. There are a few other possible solutions to try as well that work more as potential solutions.
- Hold down the [Power] button and power off the phone. Once the phone is powered down, remove the battery as well as the SIM card — ALWAYS remove the battery BEFORE the SIM card. Let the phone rest for about a minute, and then put the SIM and battery back in, and turn the phone back on.
- If the person on the other end is having a difficult time hearing you, it could just mean that there is dust or something caught in the microphone. To check the microphone, look in the tiny pin-hole on the bottom of the S5 — blow into it to make sure there’s nothing that is muffling the sound.
Possible Water Damage
One of the biggest features of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the fact that they are water resistant to a reasonable depth. However, this feature doesn’t mean that you should try going swimming with your phone or try using it in the shower (even though that would be convenient). This feature was implemented for the more common issues users face with water damage — such as the infamous toilet drop, rain storm, or even puddle drop. So, if your phone is acting “glitchy” after falling in the toilet or whatever happens, here are a few tips:
- Don’t attempt to turn on the phone to see if it’s working. The first thing you want to do it take out the battery then the SIM card and dry it off with a towel as best as you can. If there is water in smaller crevices that the towel can’t absorb, q-tips also work to get the hidden drops. You don’t want to turn the phone on for a solid 24 hours — just to whatever water is left will dry up.
- Other fixes to remove the excess water from your phone is if you own a dehumidifier — place the phone, battery and SIM card as close to the dehumidifier as possible and place both in a small room (closets work best). Let it sit overnight with the dehumidifier on, and by morning, you should see an improvement.
