The iPhone and Water Damage

iPhone Repair shops are the best places to go when there has been damage to an iPhone. But what is someone to do when it is late at night and their phone falls into the bathtub, or when they aren’t able to get to a phone repair shop right away?

Many people have experienced the terror of watching their phone sink to the bottom of the bathtub or toilet. The worst part about it is the powerlessness felt in that moment. The good news is that there is hope for the phone to get fixed, and without hassle or too much stress.

Water Damage to the iPhone

Remove the iPhone from the Water

The first step is to remove the phone from the water it is currently submerged in. Don’t watch the phone sink as it makes its way to the bottom. Remove it from the source of liquid, so that remedies can be applied to hopefully prevent the phone from being permanently damaged.

Don’t Attempt to Turn On the Phone

If the phone is on, turn it off immediately. One should never attempt to power on their iPhone, Android, or iPad if it has been submerged.

Dry off the Smartphone

The obvious next step is to dry off the phone. Use a towel or hand cloth, but NOT a blow dryer.

Place the Phone in a Bag with Rice

Those who have had phone and water problems in the past may have already utilized this handy method. One of the best solutions to the submerged phone is placing it ina bag of rice. Either a Ziploc bag or even in the container the rice is already in, this is going to do the job of soaking the moisture out of the phone.

Check the Liquid Contact Indicator

iPhones feature an LCI (Liquid Contact Indicator). This table lets the user know if water or liquid has made significant damages to the phone. Apple uses these indicators to tell if the phone has had water damage, because their standard warranties do not cover liquid damage to the phones.

Restoring Factory Settings may be Necessary

If the water was quickly removed from the source of water, it may be able to power up just fine. However, it may be necessary to restore the phone to the latest settings. This is why it’s important to back up the smartphone as often as possible.

Get the Phone to a Repair Shop

It’s never a bad idea to take the phone to a repair shop as well, to let the experts take a look at it. Those who work in phone repair stores look at smartphones everyday and are experienced in knowing what to look for when it comes to liquid damage to an iPhone.
